The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved the use of buprenorphine, also known as Suboxone and Subutex, for the office-based treatment of narcotic addiction or dependence. These medications treat opiate addiction by preventing symptoms of withdrawal from heroin and other opiates such as OxyContin and Vicodin.
